When one side's aggression fades despite heavy volume, often the end of a move.
Exhaustion shows when a spike of aggressive volume no longer moves price: the last buyers (or sellers) enter at the worst moment. Combined with absorption, it's a powerful reversal signal.

Exhaustion marks the moment the side pushing the market runs out of steam. Paradoxically, it often shows up as a volume spike, a climax: everyone piles in the same direction at the worst moment, and no one is left to keep pushing. Price stalls despite huge volume.
It's the mirror of absorption seen from the aggressive side: where absorption highlights a passive wall soaking up, exhaustion highlights aggression running dry. The two often converge at move extremes and foreshadow a reversal, provided you wait for confirmation from price and delta.
On DeepCharts, watch for the climax: a spike in volume and delta in the trend's direction, right as price stops progressing. If delta then flips the other way and price rejects the extreme, exhaustion is confirmed and the reversal becomes playable.

Selling the top (or buying the bottom) on the first big volume. A volume climax isn't an immediate entry signal: the trend may have one last push. Wait for aggression to actually give and price to confirm the rejection.

Exhaustion vs absorption: what's the difference?
Two angles on the same moment. Exhaustion describes aggression running dry (the pushing side); absorption describes the passive counterparty soaking up (the defending side). They often coincide at reversals.
Does a volume climax always signal a reversal?
No. High volume can also accompany continuation. It's the price/volume disconnect (lots of volume, no more progress) then the delta flip that separate exhaustion from a mere push.
Where does exhaustion show up most?
At session extremes, on tests of major levels (highs/lows, VWAP, value-area edges) and after fast, stretched moves, when aggression has already given a lot.
